Abstract:

Nowadays, new information societies are the result of Information Technology (IT) effects on different aspects of human need. IT causes changes in building architecture and in the construction industry too. intelligent building is one of the main products of the effects of information technology on the construction industry. Based on a review of recent literature, this paper has identified eight major factors of intelligent building, has discussed various perspectives from the point of view of both architecture and information technology and provided a model for intelligence assessment. This model has been applied in an Iranian building complex as a case study and the results have been analyzed by surveys. This study provides an integrated perspective of critical issues for intelligence assessment in the construction industry. It gives valuable information and guidelines that, hopefully, will help the constructors, on one hand, and the leaders, on the other hand, to construct intelligent buildings in an effective way.

Abstract:

Emotions constitute a major part of human existence, social interactions influence on decision-making, experiences and most of all the social interactions and communications with other persons, so revealing its various aspects and its recognition are very important. The aim of Emotional intelligent Architecture (EIA) is designing the spaces in which they can influence psychological states and emotions by using physical factors such as geometry, light, temperature, sound and smart materials. Emotional intelligent building can show people's sense of presence in various forms, and provide other issues such as entertainment, care, health and safety for users of the space. There are several key challenges in emotional intelligent building design. One of these challenges is to find the person's emotional state at the moment, and to establish a mutual communication between people and space is yet another challenge. Moreover, physical strength, electrical components, light intensity control as well as user safety during use of space are some of the important factors that affect the emotional intelligent building design. Producing visual qualities (pleasure and aesthetics) and development of a scale control software that can be re-usable in infrastructure are other important issues. As the final point, increasing the capacity of visitor’s interactions should be considered as a key point in intelligent building design. So, this study seeks to devise a relationship between human and architectural space in order to create a sensible balance between these two items. For this purpose the role of advanced technologies has been investigated. According to the studies, in order to achieve a building intelligent façade based on emotions of visitors, the best solution would be use of facial recognition technology. Researchers generally use two methods for classification of feelings. In this study we use arousal-attraction two-dimensional space. The vertical axis in arousal-attraction chart shows the active and inactive feeling, and the horizontal axis shows a positive or negative sense. In this study, facial expressions of 44 subjects (22 males and 22 females) has been evaluated. The mean age of participants was 18-28 years. Facial expressions of the subjects have been captured while viewing various geometry of an intelligent façade. Then five emotional states have been evaluated according to arousal-attraction chart including: pleasant, unpleasant, comfort, surprise and neutral, using three methods, i.e. questionnaires, recording video and image processing. The results indicate that people have the same emotions while viewing the intelligent façade with various geometry of the openings. After feature extraction, classification and interpretation, emotional states associated with each image were identified for different groups. Afterward certain emotional categories were defined for each group. The result also shows that recognition of users' emotions by two methods of questionnaire and image processing are approximately the same and in 65 present of cases are completely matched. Finally, the model for smart change of the façade that is appropriate for the people who visit the space was provided. It can be concluded that Emotional intelligent Architecture (EIA) can create a suitable relationship between design and human and can help the designers to create the facades are appropriate for human psychological states.

Abstract:

intelligent building (IB) technologies have widespread applications in the building design and development. In this regard, it is necessary to develop intelligent building assessment models in order to satisfy the clients, professionals, and occupants' growing demands. To this end, this paper proposes an integrated analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and preference degree approach (PDA) under the fuzzy environment for the purpose of intelligent building assessment. Fuzzy AHP is employed to determine the local weights of performance criteria and the final weights of the intelligent building alternatives. Since, the final weights of intelligent buildings (IBs) are in the form of fuzzy numbers, fuzzy PDA is utilized to prioritize the intelligent buildings. Finally, fuzzy AHP-fuzzy PDA is proposed to assess the performance of five intelligent building alternatives in Isfahan, Iran.

Abstract:

In the response phase the most important step is to assess disaster after occurrence. By disaster assessment, we can obtain all the needed information for controlling, decision-making and also disaster planning. Lack of disaster assessment causes you to make unsuitable decisions based on limited or inadequate data which leads to imperfect disaster response. According to IFRC, disaster response operation will have an unsuitable function without disaster assessment. This paper presents the principles and concepts of disaster assessment.

Abstract:

Office buildings in the construction sector are the largest consumer of energy. So providing solutions for energy efficiency, improving performance and correcting the operation pattern can reduce energy consumption and improve occupants comfort in these buildings. Using Design builder and CFD simulation software and recording devices, the study has analyzed the environment quality parameters (temperature, humidity and air pressure) to calculate the amount of energy required in a smart building. First the current state of the environment is evaluated. In the next steps the building energy bills analyzed, also simulation and calculation of building loads and ultimately provide solutions to energy audits and energy efficiency of buildings have been discussed. The objective of this study is to review ways to reduce energy consumption in such buildings. The simulation in this study shows that with proper planning and management of energy consumption in intelligent office buildings, there is a possibility of reducing more than 35 to 40% of annual energy consumption. However the most of the savings are in the cooling and lighting sectors in such buildings.

Abstract:

Background: Our knowledge of diseases and maladies has been increased during the recent decades. These diseases are related to the presence of people in the buildings which may cause due to varieties of physical, biologic, and chemical (organic or inorgicic) factors. We decided to investigate one of these problems, namely sick building syndrome (SBS) in one of high administrative buildings in Tehran in summer 2002. Materials and methods: It was a descriptive study. All employees working in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development were included. Personal complaints of mental and irritative symptoms were assessed using a combined questionnaire (Questionnaires of CCOHS-2001 and London Center Hazards-1990). The prevalence of SBS of determined and the association between human, environmental and building factors with the occurrence of this phenomenon was clarified. Results: Of 312 employees, 171 were randomly selected. There were 96 males (56.1%) and 75 females (43.9%). The prevalence of SBS was 58.7%. The most prevalent symptoms were fatigue (57.3%) during the past 3 months. The most prevalent irritative symptoms were burning sensation in the eyes and tearing (25.7%). The prevalence of SBS was 46.3% in males and 72% in females (p<0.001). Feeling of low air movement (68.4%), and feeling of airless environment (59.1%, always) were the most common complaints. There was no significant association between SBS and smoking, age, different stages, and duration of employment. Conclusion: The prevalence of SBS is quite high. Disorders of ventilation system are the probable cause.

Abstract:

Effective measurements and accurate analysis of the quality of news sites are the necessary steps in improving the sites’ performance and reporting methods. The present research was conducted to propose an intelligent quality assessment method for news sites. This study consists of two parts. In the first part, the Delphi technique as a qualitative method is used to identify the indicators for assessing the quality of news sites. For this purpose, 5 dimensions, 69 indicators, and several sub-criteria from five perspectives of design and graphic design, content, technical system, services, and executive management of news sites were identified. Subsequently, the quality of 61 news sites was calculated and the quality score of each site was obtained using a questionnaire. In the second part, a neural network model was designed with 9 inputs and one output. The results and the values of Mean Squared Error (MSE) indicate the validity of the proposed model.
